cost is not a good answer. how much does ur life cost? we just spent billions on this war. for what? we would benefit more spending that money to develop technology to send nulear waste right to the sun the ultimate incinerator instead of burying it in a mountain.

What would we do if the crap came back? Space junk, i.e. leftover parts from space shuttle and space station repairs, etc. comes back into the atmosphere all the time. Would you want nuclear waste crashing down into your living room and ultrasonic speeds reaching temperatures comparable to the Sun? NOT ME!

I don't remember the precise numbers on this, but I read that it costs somewhere on the order of several hundred thousand dollars per pound of payload to reach outer space.

That's why we don't. Breaking the force of Earth's gravitational attraction isn't as easy as NASA, movies, TV, and cartoons make it look.
