I would recommend you doing the following things.
Windows XP if you have installed Service Pack 2 which I presume you have installed has a firewall in it, all you need to do is go into Control Panel then Security then click on the Firewall Settings and Enable it if it isn't. If a pop-up is telling you to get a firewall ignore it because it can lead to more Spyware.

I would recommend the following two programs they are both free:

For Spyware Removal Get Ad-Aware 2007 it is found at
http://lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

For Viruses Get AVG by Grifsoft:

A trojan and spyware are two different things.

I suggest you get your parents to assist you with the security and upkeep of the computer.

You should not be browsing the internet without a security suite installed on your computer (antivirus, firewall, antispyware, etc) from a reliable vendor (mcafee, norton, panda, etc..) that is properly configured and completely up to date.

A firewall is absolutely essential.

If you have a proper security program installed and it is asking you to install the firewall portion then you should listen to it... If you do not have a proper security program installed and something else is telling you to download or install more crap like the freeware you're asking for then most likely you already infected yourself by downloading freeware and that's also the problem.

Good Luck

You should get a good anti-virus package (note: Trojan was considered as virus )

You need to go to microsoft.com/security to install SP2 or even SP3 and do a security update. This provide a minimum protection with free of charge.

Then, you need an anti-virus package.

If you can afford a network security package as Norton or McAfee (not both together), the protection is even better.

Get Norton Internet Security 2007, or wait for 2008. Norton is #1 protection software and is the most secure.

Delete all files. (for each user)

*Delete all in recycle bin

I would also download and install Firefox, its less vulnerable than IE.

(Then configure it for pop-ups and other things, like Clearing everything when you exit. tools>options>privacy tab to clear everything)
