It is up to the vegetarian or vegan to decide what to or not to eat. There are no "rules for vegan". There are definitions, but no laws". I keep a vegan home. When eating out, I eat cheese if I can't find another choice on the menu. I believe what you say about chocolate is true. I heard that years ago. There is an allowable percent of insect parts. This is because of the way the carob pods are dried. Something about lying on the ground where insects can crawl into them. Chocolate is not the only "not pure" food. There are numerous foods that you wouldn't eat if you knew the history behind the preparation of them. Maybe that is where asking God to bless the food before a meal came from.

I think the fact that insect parts may be found in chocolate would not stop vegetarians from eating chocolate. I this fact could be said for pretty much any food. I'm sure when soybeans are harvested, a grasshopper or two may have come with them! LOL However, keep in mind that vegans can not have ANY animal product so if the chocolate has milk fat in it (most do) they will not eat it.

I personally don't eat American chocolate-- I only eat the uber-dark Belgian 85% stuff. That sort of thing is generally more quality-controlled.
But I think most vegetarians would not give up chocolate for something like that, because the process of making chocolate does not specifically require killing insects. =]

not mixed into the chocolate at the factory.......,
the insects were on the coca beans to begin with,
and they are mostly cockroaches, not just any insect.
and ill bet you most vegetariens dont really care what happens to the cockroaches that live on the coca beans.
But i dont think that most ppl want to eat chocolate after they find out that there are roaches in it anyway.

They probably do eat it. I was a vegetarian for several years and I never turned down a Hershey bar. I think it depends on how strict they are, but I've never met a veg that wouldn't scarf down an occasional chocolate candy here and there.

Vegans don't eat mil chocolate but that's cause it's got milk in it.
Vegetarians...yeah they do.
It all depends on the person.
in the end though ... no one forced the spider to go jump in the chocolate. So it s the spider's fault really.

I eat vegan chocolate, and I think it's funny a meateater would interrogate a vegan about animals in our food. It's better to have morals and adhere to them as best as you possinly can than to hav enone at all, no?
