First: combine "like" terms - subtract 5x from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

2x-5x + 12 = 5x -5x- 15
2x-5x + 12 = - 15
-3x + 12 = - 15

SEc: add 12 to both sides.

-3x + 12-12 = - 15-12
-3x = -15-12
- 3x = - 27

Third: isolate "x" by itself - divide both sides by -3.

- 3x/-3 = - 27/-3
x = 27/3
x = 9

Get x's on one side and the numbers on the other:
So we'll subtract 5x to get it to the left side of the equals sign, and subtract 12 from the left to get it to the right side

2x - 5x = -15 - 12 simplify

-3x = -27 divide both sides by -3 to get the answer

x = 9

Check this answer by plugging x=9 back into the original question:

2(9) + 12 = 5(9) - 15
18 + 12 = 45 - 15

30 = 30 The solution is correct.

Simplifying
2x + 12 = 5x + -15

Reorder the terms:
12 + 2x = 5x + -15

Reorder the terms:
12 + 2x = -15 + 5x

Solving
12 + 2x = -15 + 5x

Solving for variable 'x'.

Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.

Add '-5x' to each side of the equation.
12 + 2x + -5x = -15 + 5x + -5x

Combine like terms: 2x + -5x = -3x
12 + -3x = -15 + 5x + -5x

Combine like terms: 5x + -5x = 0
12 + -3x = -15 + 0
12 + -3x = -15

Add '-12' to each side of the equation.
12 + -12 + -3x = -15 + -12

Combine like terms: 12 + -12 = 0
0 + -3x = -15 + -12
-3x = -15 + -12

Combine like terms: -15 + -12 = -27
-3x = -27

Divide each side by '-3'.
x = 9

Simplifying
x = 9

Hi, x is 9. 2(9) + 12 = 5(9)-15
18 +12 =45-15
30=30
To figure it out you just keep trying different numbers inplace of the "x".
Hope this helps you

you need to get x alone on one side of the equation
subtract twelve from each side
2x=5x-27
subtract 5x from the right side
-3x=-27
divide both sides by -3
x=9
