Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton, etc. rather than putting our energy and thoughts into things that really matter, like the war in Iraq, terrorists, the homeless, etc.?

Because most people "think" they wish they lived the same life style as these people. Still, most people prefer to think about things that make them happy rather than on things that can create stress in their personal life. Not many want to think about how the homeless survive, what is taking place in Iraq or in Iran. Few people can deal with the reality of life; others just live their life with what makes them happy and enduring a fruitless life where only they matter..

Human beings LOVE talking about other people's lives. But remember that the etc. is also talked about alot. Its just that Lohan and Hilton are always changing and don't effect us, while Iraq is very depressing and impacts many aspects of our lives.
Plus, alacazam is totally right.
(Isn't it so amazing that human beings have managed to a)create enough bombs to blow themselves up seven times over, and b)figure out a way to actually NOT blow themselves up, but still kill themselves by destroying the ozone. This is of course in addition to creating the ever-important SPRAY CHEESE.)

it is easier to think about senseless things/people like that than take the time to make an educated opinion to talk about the war or terrorists or the homeless or whatever else is an actual concern.
