Hi there! I was just wondering what would you recommend for me. I'm looking for a Stephen King novel similar to the Towers series. This is a surprise gift to my best friend, whom I have grown very distant from in the last year. I wanted to surprise her with a novel for Christmas and have no clue which one to get her. She's a Stephen King fan and a total horror fan. I don't plan on getting her the obvious classics like It, Pet Cemetery, Misery, or Carrie and such. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate the feedback.
Also, I was just wondering if Cell would be a good option. It sounds interesting enough, so if you've read that, would you recommend it? Why or why not?

Okay from my research The Stand seems really popular...? But I'm not sure if she has read it yet so I was kind of thinking a newer book even though a lot of people say that his classics are better...so I'm not sure. Thanks for your opinions! =D

Stephen King is my favorite author.
If you want to do something different, hit a used book store and see if you can find some first prints of his old stuff in hard back. In addition to making for a good re-read, they make pretty cool collectibles for a real King enthusiast. I have several that I have found over the years and I always keep my eyes peeled when I am browsing a book store.
For example, if you can find it, you may want to consider Dark Forces. It is a compilation of his short stories. The last story in the book is the original version of The Mist which comes out on film next week. It's from 1980 so you will not have an easy time finding a copy but I did find one available on Ebay.

Getting a hold of one of his Creepshow comic books would also be a cool idea. I don't know that they would qualify as rare, but you do not see them everywhere. You can occasionally get them on Ebay at decent prices. Also another great collectible for a King fan.

Both of these Ebay listings state first run which may actually give them some extra value as collectibles too.

There is a short story called Little Sisters of Eluria from the short story collection Everything's Eventual, it's about one of Roland's adventures before The Dark Tower Series. There are also the comic books that explore Roland's past, The Gunslinger Born is out now. Here's a link if you want to check that out:

The book Insomnia has a lot of references to things in the Dark Tower Series. I have loved everything I have read of his so far. I agree with the other recommendations also, all of his works are great.
I love the Dark Tower Series!

Well, The Stand is definitely my favorite individual story, and The Talisman, which he co-wrote with Peter Straub, is fantastic. But by far, my favorite (and actually King's baby) is The Dark Tower series. The first one (which he wrote decades ago) starts out a little confusing, but after that, they're amazing. And nearly every book he's written up to the time of the Dark Tower is actually incorporated into that story in one way or another. Most intriguing.

My favorite is The Dark Half.. but the Tower series is a dark fantasy more than a horror.. so, I would go with The Eyes of the Dragon which is a slightly less dark fantasy..

If you love the good sit down and read the blackest, darkest, creepiest, and goriest horror that makes you question life then I would reccomend IT but 1408 is a good selection and anything from the Skeleton Crew... But that might just be me...

Lisey's stories--is about...Lisey Landon lost her husband Scott two years ago and is dealing with her 3 endearing, yet maddening sisters and how to sort through Scott’s final writings (Scott was an award-winning novelist with a mysterious past and fantastic means of creating a story).
hope she enjoyed it!! not that i have read the book

If she hasn't read The Stand then I definitely recommend that one. I have read it twice now. (I don't normally read a book twice.) Don't get "Cell" - it was very disappointing. Seems like he got sick of writing it towards the end and it just sort of finished. Most unlike his other books I thought.
