I was in SE Asia from 1972 until Saigon fell in 1975 and was duped into fighting an un-winable war. I would (and have) risked my life for the United States and her allies. ANZAC troops are easily the most loyal allies anybody could hope to fight side by side with. I will not put my life on the line for middle eastern oil, but I also know from past experience that the troops are not being told the whole story.
Gen. George Patton said it correctly when he told his troops, "The idea of war is not to die for your country. The objective is to make the other SOB die for his."

Yes Yes and Yes

I am a patriot of my country and would gladly sacrifice my life it meant protecting the way of life for all my ancestors etc...

however think firstly all politicans/ leaders should be on the front line before any other member of their countries this would stop numerous wars

Yes because I am a true American and a patriot that loves my country and American principles and values. I would die defending her. I served in the military and support our men and women who serve today and would stand right there beside them without a doubt. USN 1977-1983.

No, and that is kind of sad.
I do consider myself patriotic but our politicians do not consider the harsh realities of war; wars are no longer the answer they once were.
I would only die for my daughter.

yes.

Sinclair Lewis once said, "Intellectually I know that America is no better than any other country; emotionally I know she
is better than every other country." ??

That's how I feel.

despite her faults, and the faults of her leaders, I know that my country has so much to give. I would die for my country if I knew that it was mostly good.. and I do.
