Hard one. I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan and he did have some nice moments w/ Houston but the team never really wo w/ him. Neither did they w/ Biggio and Bagwell outside of 05'. Personally the Most valuable in my mind was Biggio who did everything for them play second, outfield, catcher, ect. Still Ryan was a texas man and is a legend in the state of Texas. I say Ryan and Biggio is a tossup w/ bagwell not far behind. Still what about old joe Nekro as another great Astro

Jose Cruz and Jimmie Wynn need to be mentioned. Nolan Ryan as an Astro, in his prime, is # 1 for me, but if considering guys who played MOSTLY for the Astros, what about Cruz? What about the Astros first icon, Wynn? Biggio and Bagwell, sure, but also there is a little matter of Lance Berkman, who might end up on the top of the heap. I just thought, well, let's mention some guys who were GREAT in their time.

I'd pick Nolan Ryan.

Bagwell, by a mile......
Biggio is a legit HoF'er, but he ain't no Bagwell.
Ryan is long way away 3rd.

Frankly, Wynn, Morgan, Watson, Cruz were all better Astros than Nolan.

And I'm an Angels fan, and still remember The Angels GM saying, when asked about replacing Ryan..'All I gotta do is get 2 8-7 pitchers"

Ryan, by the way, used to be a customer of mine when he was with the Angels, he often bought clothes in our mens shop.

To be considered for something like that I think that a few things have to happen first.

When you say a players name people associate them with the team in question.

And two, the player has to put up something close to a hall of fame career. (obviously two will be very though for the more recent teams)

Biggio and Bagwell both qualify because the Astros are the only team they have ever known, I also believe that the two of them are connected by history because they played so long together, Bagwell was the greater player but had injury problems so in a way their careers somewhat balance out because of that. I don't believe one would have become what they did without the other, but if you have to pick one its Bagwell. He was elite and someone that deserved another five years to his career to close it out properly.

Considering how long the Astros have been around the list of players that get check marks for both my criteria is rather short, and really I think it begins and ends with Bagwell and Biggio. Ryan was great, but its tough to lock him into one hat as it were. He was just as great if not greater with the Angels and had a lot of historic moments with the Rangers, not to mention won a World Series with the Mets...though he did play a small role in that.

Someone threw out Morgan but there is no way that he is considered a Astro. I imagine that the majority of fans didn't even know he was a Astro.

Some others that I can put out there....Jimmy Wynn, Mike Scott, and even Glenn Davis. Though none of them are hall of fame caliber players.

The Astros have had plenty of good players but very few truely great ones have come up and stayed with the team. I believe that Berkman will also find his way on to the short list along with Oswalt if the Astros manage to hold on to them for say four or five more years.

My personal favorite is: Biggio.

Nolan is great but he didn't play his entire career with the Astors.

i think if you include Bagwell then you also have to include Berkman (assuming he finishes his career with the Astros) because when you think of them you think of the Killer B's and the buzzing in the background as they hit back-to-back-to-back Jacks.

i have great administration and love for the Killer B's even though i'm a Dodger fan.

Rangers, because of the fact i'm a Brewers fan, even nevertheless it quite is in many situations irked me how they bypass with the aid of "Texas" rather of the city... Like say they're enjoying the Astros. "this night that is Houston as against Texas."

Nolan Ryan. He was the DHL Hometown Hero for the Astros, so that should tell you something.
