I'd say 30 students.
However I must make the following assumptions :
Every student played exactly one round of miniature golf.
No student bought any "stuff" with teacher's money.

Solve this like this :
450 - 180 = 270 : total cost minus fixed cost equals the amount that is to be divided among the students.
270 / 9 = 30 : cost remaining divided by the cost of one round of miniature golf gives the number of games played. Since I assumed every student played one game, there are 30 students to play the 30 games.

$180(cost of transportation)+$9x(x=number of students)=$450

To simplify: 180+9x=450

Subtract 180 from both sides
180+9x-180=450-180

The 180 and the -180 on the left side cancel, leaving
9x=450-180, OR
9x=270

Divide both sides by 9
9x/9=270/9

The 9x/9 cancels to get 1x, leaving
x=270/9, OR
x=30

if x=30, there were 30 students taken in total!

really simple 180+9x=450 first subtract 180 from both sides
180+9x=450
-180 -180

then you a problem that looks like this 9x=270 and now you divide by 9

9x=270 and your answer will be 30 thats how many
9 9 students.

First, your equation: (this is an important step, more students get messed up because they don't think this though than most anything else)

TOTAL COST= FIX COST + COST PER PERSONxPERSONS.

You have your total cost ($450) You have your fixed cost ($ 180)
You know the cost per person ($9) You don't know the number of students (S). So put it all together and solve for S.

450=180+9x
solve for x

Well since it says its nine dollars per person
then you have to write
9x
because you know it cost nine dollars
per person but you dont know
how many people went
and since it also says transportation was $180
and it equalled $450
9x+180=450
then you subtract 180 from both sides
so it leaves you with
9x=270
and now you just divide and your answer
is going to be the number of students
that went.
x=??

hope i helped :]

2 people because if you had three people 180x3 that alone would be more than 450. All you have to do is think logically

180+ (9xP)=450

subtract 180 from both sides of problem.

9xP=270

divide by 9 on both sides

P=30

30 Students!! :)

hope that helps :)
