I recently received an email from NYU stating that any NYC who applies has their fee waivered. Is this really true. Personally I'd rather not have $65 on the line.

Actual email:
Dear <>:
It is impossible to envision New York University without New York City.
Probably no college or university is more closely identified with its
home town than is NYU.
But, we have a problem. Over the past two decades or so, we have
experienced a small, but steady, decrease in the portion of our freshman
class from New York City. We know that many of our students are drawn
from across the country and across the globe in large measure by the
chance to experience New York City as NYU students, and we believe that a
good part of that experience includes actually being around New Yorkers
not only on the sidewalks and public parks, but in classes, in residence
halls, and on athletic teams and student clubs. New Yorkers like you!

To put it simply, we want more New York City students to stay in New
York City and to consider attending NYU. And, being New Yorkers, we are
ready to "put our money where our mouth is."
We will waive our normal $65 application fee for all September, 2008,
freshman applicants who attend a high school in New York City.

When you apply, you do not need a fee waiver form; the waiver is
automatic if you attend a high school located in one of the Five Boroughs of
New York City. If you apply on-line, click the "fee waiver" button; if
you apply using a paper application, just send in the application
without the fee.

Good luck in the application process, and have a great senior year!

Sincerely,

NYU Undergraduate Admissions

I just asked them and apparently yes, it is waivered but only for prospective NYC residents for the class of 2008. Thanks for the responses though.

I do not think so. NYU is a private school, so they have nothing to do with the city.

No, everyone has to pay the application fee. All schools are like that. However, if admitted, as a NY resident, you would not have to pay out of state fees. Those have nothing to do with the application fee, though.

Did you get that email out of nowhere or had you emailed them? I'd still call and check with them to make sure. I wouldn't trust an email unless I had emailed them for info. I've never heard of app. fees being waived, but maybe they do.

funds exchange right into a ingredient for me. I particularly have been out of faculty (Berkeley) for 8 years now. soccer opened doors for me - I had finished rides to UCLA, UC Davis and Yale. Berkeley provided me some information yet I nevertheless had back up with $12K (decrease back then) a 365 days. i'm a community CA resident so i did no longer could desire to problem touching directly to the out of state costs. although, through fact of kinfolk situations, I had to pay for college myself. It exchange into difficult yet properly worth IT. I chosen Berkeley through fact this is the suited rated public college interior the rustic. i did no longer desire to bypass away the state individually so Yale exchange into out. Oddly adequate I chosen the college with the worst kit yet I have been given a activity till now I even graduated through fact each and every of the employers I utilized to valued my degree vs the different UC establishments. the greater acceptable the undergrad college, the better it particularly is to get right into a masters software besides. shop that throughout the time of ideas. desire that helps. -Liz-
