I wouldn't have to be an astronaut to do that. If it were a long trip and I were on a tight schedule, and depending where I was having to drive, YES, I would wear a diaper.
Some of the bathrooms in gas stations are just horrible and filthy. I wouldn't sit on one of those commodes to save my life. Besides, if I were traveling at night and alone, I wouldn't want to get out of the car to go into a restroom anywhere. As much as I hate to say it, the world just isn't a safe place anymore, unfortunately. There are a lot of crazy people out there that will do a lot of crazy things for no reason other than just to do it.
Why take chances? Disposable diapers are not that expensive, and if you double or triple up by cutting the plastic backing in all but the last layer, you can go for quite a long time without having to bother with changing. Just use plenty of powder.

I would rather use even gas station's bathrooms(!!!)
