Black refers to keeping us retailers in the black from the deluge of sales. The next two months carries the following 6.
But I call is Black Friday for another reason:
It's the most hellish shopping day of the year for us retailers. Legions of extended families fresh off their Turket Day gorge tearing apart your shelves for the best deal, best gift, etc.
We make all of our money during this stretch but Black Friday marks the first real and most hectic day of the shopping shopping season.
I just close my eyes, put my head down, work for 100 hours a week until Jan 1 when I can come up for air and relax.
Retailers out there know what I'm talking about.

It's okay lol. Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, when stores all over have sales, and usually stay open long. Parking is impossible, people camp out, all to get the best discounts of the year. There have actually even been stories on the news where people get trampled and hurt rushing from store to store... seriously... I'm not even allowed out on that day. Oh, and I figure that well, Thanksgiving is over, and the next holiday is on its way (the biggest holiday season of the year...), so they might as well kick off the season with a big holiday sale lol. Happy Shopping/Holidays!

It's a great advertising ploy to get people out shopping. So many people are darkening stores entrances that all the stuff on sale will be gone. Some like the herd mentality. It's built around the large number of people that go shopping on that day that is hyped by calling it black Friday.

It isn't just the 23rd. It is the friday after thanksgiving every year. That is the day when every store has all of their items on sale. Everyone gets up really early and shops all day on Black friday because it is the day when they can get the best deals!! It's when most people do their christmas shopping.

here goes, it is the official start of the holiday shopping season. most stores are just about breaking even or are lacking in sales...so called "in the red". with a nice turn out of shoppers...many stores get so called "out of the red" as in red ink or a loss. and get put in the black column for a profit which hopefully will keep going up until the end of the year. so store owners claim that the amount of sales that day alone makes them turn a profit......hopefully this answers your question

It is the Friday after Thanksgiving and clerks in every store call it black Friday because we all have to work extra hours and bad hours at that and the customers are almost all rude because they got up too early to come shopping. It makes all of us miserable.

It is called Black Friday because it's the first day of the Christmas 'shopping season' and so many people go shopping on that day that many stores make their first 'profit' sales that day ... so the books are finally in the 'black' and not 'the red' ...

It is considered the Day that Retailers are able to get out of the Red (loss) and get in the Black (gain). If they can stay open all year and break even, then they should be able to make money due to the Holiday Shopping.

The black is kind of misunderstood as bad. It's the day after thanksgiving when all the kool aid drinkers feel they need to venture out and go christmas shopping. The black refers to the retailers making enough money to keep their business in the black.

The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping day of the year. I suppose it is called Black Friday because it is not always on the same day, but it is always on a friday.
