I was driving by a High school the other day, and it said "Bell multicultural High School". My Neocon Dad commented "They're just trying to be honest about leftist indoctrination". I wasn't sure what he was talking about, so I didn't say anything.

A form of national suicide invented in Canada in the 70s.
The basic tennet of Multiculturalism is that all /other/ cultures should be respected and valued. Another important facet is that cultures should be judged by thier own standards - a form of moral relativism.

IMHO, it simply means teaching that different cultures have strengths and merit, and should not simply be begrudgingly tolerated, but appreciated and valued. Irish immigrants were widely considered to be subhuman when they first got here, and were subjected to oppression and discrimination as a result. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Irish_racism And yet now they're as mainstream and assimilated as any group here. People from other parts of Europe, including but not limited to Italians had to endure much of the same crap. Much of this blind hatred and sweeping generalizations and caricatures of racial and ethnic minorities can still be found today, albeit in more subtle and insidious form. Multiculturalism can be seen as an effort to combat that and keep it in check.
