The schools I've been to never let us dissect any animals. But, I did dissect owl pellets in the 6th grade once. We had to take the mouse bones we found and reconstruct the skeleton. It was kind of cool. I did dissect a frog once, online.

Owl Pellets(7th grade), Frog (7th grade), Shark (for Marine Science in 12th grade)--the class next door (Anatomy) was dissecting cats--it was so sad too look at & the smell was horrible!

Way back in Jr. High- about 41 years ago!- we had to dissect little pig fetuses. I'll never forget the smell of the formaldehyde. The whole thing was disgusting and I swore that if any of my kids didn't want to participate in dissections in science class, that I would make sure they were excused from that class. You actually DO NOT have to do that if you are morally against it!- it's a law

When I was in high school I had to dissect a worm. I remember it was about 9 inches long and a pale white color. Then we had to save it each day in formaldehyde to study it the next day. Did this for a couple of weeks. Yuk

A frog, pretty much like everyone else in class those days. We also dissected onions... everybody was crying.
