The reason it is not lower is because of his most ardent supporters, the Christian right.
The very people that are supposed to be about inclusion, not judging others, not killing and murdering, not going to war under flimsy excuses, loving fellow man and not excluding them like Bush with his support for the country club class, and of course, not living the devils dream.
The Christian right is so full of contradictions that it is any wonder how they can look in the mirror and call themselves Christians. They insist on making exceptions and not living by the very basis of their religion, the Golden Rule. Do to others as you would have them do to you. Very basic and widely ignored, especially by zealots.

It is the lowest in history, but if you break it in to both sides. Dems have about 28% approval. Its the Reps that are bring it down. Granted 28% is not good.
