I agree. We should all boycott products sold by movie stars on TV such as Rite Guard deoderant, tampons with wings, Head 'n Shoulders. The world would be a cleaner, purified place. ;-)

This is a developmental psychology question, which should be answered by a child deveopment specialist. I am not one of those but have raised 4 children, 3 grandchildren etc. I have also read some child development texts.

Children are imitators; they copy the actions of grown ups whom they love and love them. Some carry this into adulthood. Before there was TV and Movies children tended to imitate their parents as role models and Sigmund Freud (1856-1939),the father of psychiatry, theorized that teens had to develop an adult "ego-ideal" to get smoothly into adulthood. The fact that the family has declined in influence since the advent of movies and Tv wherein children may be raised by a TV set instead of a strong Father or Mother has changed all this. The ego-ideal is not now as often a boy's Father or girl's Mother but a character in TV's or Movies.

Peer pressure also has a strong influence. Teens often desperately want to be liked especially if the home environment is bad.. They force themselves to adhere to the norms of the "gang" or group they want to be in. They are very susceptible to the opinions of others which in turn may be modeled on a character from TV assumed as an ideal by the dominant kids in the group. It is not that they are afraid of themselves but they are afraid of others disapproval. They don't know how to be themselves because they have no good parental ideal.

It is vital to love and be loved by a real person one can touch. Good mental health, peace and Love!

I suppose I could mimic someone mimicking someone on TV, but I rarely watch TV to copy anyone off a show. Haven't watched much for about 10 yrs. When I do its not usually something I could mimic......lol I run around in jogs sometimes and my hair in a messy bun. I suppose I could look like an exercise show host.........Poo! Nothing good though. Anything but Joan Rivers please.....

I suppose people find what they see on TV stylish and exciting to look like the stars they might idealize or perhaps like the look of in fashion. If my house is like theirs I'd be very amazed. I picture theirs a bit more glamorous than my own. Shoot I mow my own grass......pull my own weeds too.

I might be guilty of not sticking to some issues. I might have misunderstood its presentation, or wondered off.......I do that.
I don't see anything wrong with pretending in some cases. Perhaps out of context to your meaning, but sometimes its benifical to a person and hurts no one else. Like pretending to feel happy and kind when you really feel like hanging people by the feet just because they passed you........... I think sometimes it has its place to pretend a little.

I see where your coming from, I don't enjoy snotty, self centered or greedy people. I'm no better than anyone, I slide over to share a public seat, everyone is worthy of a hello until they bite my head off lol and I have enough finaces to feel comfortable, but sharing it is funner than banking it alot of times. NOT rich, comfortable. If I'm ritzy, someone should really shove me back in the bathroom...........I'm not dressed yet then.

As far as what you mean, I think you mean people are adapting their life to the questions and then answering them and also running around like soap stars and livig a life off a self made prop?

It depends on the person and how they view themselves and their self esteem. Some try to please others and are not true to themselves it's very complex and the media tries to make people fit a certain image that is not always the true one. The best way to be honest is to be true to yourself first and be open and honest with others.

When a person realizes the ability to do evil or actually has done so, they deny & hide this. why? in some twists they still may hold out hope & positive traits that they want to associate with.
