Just because all your friends sleep around doesn't mean most women do. I have been married to my husband for almost three years and have not had sex with anyone else since we started dating six years ago. I am 100% positive that he is the father of our child. Why would I waste money on a DNA test if I'm sure? Being an unmarried mom doesn't mean you're a whore. Many couples are not married but are in long-term, committed relationships. Why should their babies have to undergo DNA testing? If a man has doubts that a baby may be his, he can request a DNA test. Most states do NOT allow a woman to put down a father on the birth certificate UNLESS that man fills out a separate form acknowledging paternity (in the cases where the parents are not married to one another).

depending in which state you live in, you can name the baby anything you want. since they are not married if the father wants to be on the actual birth certificate, named as the father, then they both have to sign a paternity certificate in addition to the birth certificate. Remember that once they sign both, he is responsible to support that child, but he also has rights to the child as far as visitation, custody, etc. so think long and hard from both sides before signing.

That's what I did. I am 19 and the father is 18, and I wanted her to have his last name. He did have to sign a paper saying that he wants rights and responsibilities of the baby. If you don't want the baby to have the father's last name, it can have yours instead.

he either signs the birth certificate inthe hospital or at the Deptartment of health/ records of birth division after the baby is born. A name on the birthcertificate issued by the hospital is not the state issued document. That is the only certificate where she can list his name. Its not a legal document. Only the state issued birth record will list the father and he must sign or it will be left blank.

No, it is not necessary. Don't listen to anyone who says it is.
However if something happens to the mother and the dad gets custody of the child, said child might be hassled a lot growing up in school by other students and by customs if the child wants to go on vacation out of the country and is denied a passport or something.

You can (but in most states, you don't have to). If the father agrees and you want to then yes. The father (as well as the mother) has to fill out certain forms. Being a minor, he may have to get one of his parents to be there and they may have to fill out something to. Your best bet for information is to call either the hospital or the vital statistics dept in your area. Congrats and Good luck

Depends on your state. In many, you can include it or not. In others, he has to first sign the affidavit of paternity before you can put his name on the registration.
My suggestion: the majority of unmarried couples split up before the child reaches kindergarten. I think it's smarter to put the mother's name for the last name although you can still have the father's name on the registration.

...well, that depends. if he wants nothing to do with the baby and you're alright potentially not receiving support from the father, then there is no law saying he MUST claim paternity.
if you do not have him sign it though, you will have to go through paternity testing if you do ever decide you want to take this man to court for child support or some assistance in raising your child together.
