This is especially painful because the low tax lie is one of the strongest propaganda weapons in the hands of the American right. They underfund vital government services to the brink of collapse and use their inevitable poor service as proof they should get even less funding or preferable even be privatized. They sell this example of perverse power politics as their low taxes rhetoric.
The fact you raise could possibly open peoples eyes or at least get them to question and that needs to be prevented at all costs because most Americans still buy the low taxes scheme and think of it as positive. With Americans refusing to be scared into voting conservative anymore the we'll give you tax breaks and the Dems will raise your taxes story is their last straw in hoping to maintain power and prevent real change.
