we worked on a customers snowmobile and after dropping it off at his house he called saying we cut his seat and is demanding compinsation. we know there was no cut when it was in our possession from pick up to drop off. anyone know what we should do?

Unfortunately, it sounds like it's your word against his. You have a few options: 1) offer to pay for the repair of his seat; (2) fight it; or (3) offer to go half and half on it since neither you nor he has evidence of who exactly did the damage.

If you had people working on the snowmobile and can attest to the fact that it was in good condition when it left the shop, that's a plus. Also, an affidavit from the delivery person stating that the seat was in good condition would help, too. (Just in case you fight it and he decides to take you to small claims court.)

Also, in the future, you could protect yourself by having the owner inspect and sign a document upon delivery that he finds the vehicle in good condition. That way he can't complain later that you damaged it.

did he sign for it at the delivery and does your delivery contract say "received in good condition"? If not, then you are in for a battle. If you are a small business who needs those local customers, try to resolve it by offering a repair for less in the future, versus dish out hard money which is a loss immediately. good luck.
