Does anyone know if the oil spill reached Marin... Muir Beach, Stinson, Bolinas, etc...? I was planning on doing the beach hop this weekend, but that would be useless if everything's closed.

David: Actually, they've closed all of the beaches. I read (here, in fact) that they reopened Ocean Beach, but I have my doubts. Maybe a few parts, but... it was pretty bad.

Also, that's horrible that it spread so far. I know many workers are working on saving birds, sealions, etc... WildCare and other organizations are quite busy right now. Shame about the crabs... for their sake. Can't say I'm too sorry for the crabbers and fishermen, though... hopefully they'll find a new line of work.

Regardless... I (reluctantly) promised someone a roadtrip, so Petaluma it is! =(

Thank you all for the responses. Also, I'm not the one giving thumbs down, FYI. Cheers!

Oh, also... as for it taking so long... agreed. I did hear there were union issues, though (unions wanted in...). Also, the liability of dealing with oil (toxic). Shame.

Yes it has spread to at least or more than 21 beaches as far as Point Reyes.

I would not suggest taking a weekend hop up to see the beaches. There are trained volunteers cleaning up the oil on the beaches, in the water and still find birds dead or dying.

I am ashamed it took 5 days of bureaucracy to get the clean up started, even when people wanted to help they were told they had to be trained first. These people's hearts were breaking as they saw the damage.

Our elected officials arrived days later to survey the damage. Why were they dressed in suits and dresses and not in gear to help out.

Sadly I live in the Easy Bay, am disabled and i don't have car or would get trained to help.

The crab season is over and who knows when it will ever come back. The friends and families of relatives are coming to visit for the holidays. They take them to Fisherman's Wharf to have crab. Crabbers are out of work too.

This is a disgrace and shoould not have happened. The boat in question Hajin for some reason was taken to Oakland.

I want an answer from the Mayor of San Francisco, the Governor of California and the officials of this state to tell us why they allowed the oil spill to spread and did nothing to stop it from spreading until it was too late.

I heard on the news today that many, many beaches in Marin County are still closed. Including Muir and Stinson, I don't remember what others.

I haven't heard, but I rather doubt it. The spill occurred at the Bay Bridge, not the Golden Gate. So the slick would really, really have to travel (around the bend, past Alcatraz and out under the Golden Gate Bridge) to approach the Marin beaches. Not impossible, of course, but I'm sure we would have heard something by now. After all, people can hardly wait to point fingers anymore and pass the blame along.

yES IT DID MOVE TO STINSON BEACH AND AS FAR SOUTH AS ALMOST THE MONTEREY BAY. tHE REASON WHY IT GOT SO BAD WAS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL SPILL REPORTED WAS ONLY 148 HUNDRED GALLONS, WHICH LATER TURNED TO BE FALSE AND ENDED UP BEING OVER 56,000 GALLONS!!!

maybe you should help clean up, i don't think can just close a beach, that would be hard to do.
