My husband and I looked into getting a government business grant when we started our trucking company last year but there are few options and a ton of red tape. My husband and I are minorities and live in a small, rural town surrounded by agricultural land and they still didn't give us one. Truth be told, you have to pull yourself up by your boot straps and save your cash and improve your credit so you can finance the big stuff. Have a good amount of savings for emergencies. Our truck messed up on the very first trip! It's not an easy business, trust me...it just looks that way most of the time. But it's worth it to be your own boss & to take alllllll those deductions!

Grant, no. Loan, yes. If you are a minority in the states you have a much better chance of going to the SBA and receiving a loan. They will even help you with the business plan. BTW, whatever you do, don't expect anyone to want to offer up money unless you can prove in a business plan you can do what you want to set out to do....good luck.

Google it and see what you come up with. If your talking about a tractor trailer, get a license and try it out for a while. The industry is hiring like crazy because as of the first of this year the government cut the miles and hours a driver could drive. All the drivers are quiting now because they can't make any money.

There are no grants for a for profit business unless you are opening a daycare. If you need money, you will need to apply for a loan. No lender will talk to you unless you provide them with a valid business plan. Go to http://www.sba.gov , http://www.score.org or http://www.bplan.com for sample business plans and instructions on how to write a business plan.
Then, go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to review your business plan and discuss various loan options available to you.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.

I always see these ads for books by Matthew Lesko that list all sorts of government grants. A lot of people have complaints about these books though.
