WHat was the directors purpose in making Chatlie and the....so much darker than the first one? What was the directors purpose in making C&tcf so different than WW&tcf??

the new version's actually closer to the book

The second was actually much closer to the book C&tCF by Roald Dahl. The Gene Wilder version was a huge deviation.

The original book is dark. Willy Wonka leans to the mean side in the original. Wonka was a recluse and that made him a little eccentric and strange.

The book has been changed in order to be Politically Correct for the changing times. So it may be hard to find an original copy.

The book actually makes Willy out to be pretty dark,so the 2nd one is more true to text.

Tim Burton direced it, that should explain something. He's freakin' weird! But I like alot of his work. Maybe I'm weird, too.

yea i think it was just the way tim burton wanted to make it. i guess that's what he saw through his eyes. plus he really likes johnny depp. just an observation.
