Well, they're based on true cases,
however, they are almost like rumors or stories that have
been passed down from person to person.
Things are mixed up and changed around and missing
and not the same...So some of the stuff is real and some is fake.

It's fictional but they sometimes take their ideas from real life cases and situations. They change the circumstances around a little.

If the story is even remotely similar to a real case, they usually put up a disclaimer at the beginning of the show. Most of the ones that are like reality change just enough to keep from being sued.

Fictional, but supposedly based loosely on actual cases.
Of course, they change all the names & some of the circumstances & add a lot for the sake of drama & continuity.

Law and Order is a great show mos of it is fake like the actors but, the diffrent casess are based off of real cases but, they make their own adjustment so there wont be any legal dispute
