It's rare that college kids even spend the night in their dorms, let alone all day.

I hardly spent any time in my dorm but my roomies were always in the dorm watching something on their laptops. It's actually a lot of fun in the dorms even though you might spend all day in the dorm. Your hall mates come to visit or you make trips to their rooms. It's really hard to actually be lonely since you're either so focused on your work (haha) or you're hanging out with your dorm mates. But sometimes you might actually want to be alone because in college you almost never have any alone time.

Well, that really depends on if you mean "dorm" or "dorm room".
It's an exaggeration that most students don't "even sleep in their dorms" or that there are constant parties. You know what're constant? Midterms and exams.
At least from what I've observed, behaviors include:
sleeping
reading
other studying/paper prep (though some like libraries or computer labs for this)
Television/movie-viewing
eating
Tetris/Facebook
"chillaxing"
randomness with friends...
Not to mention most campuses have all sorts of events going on all the time. "All day" usually translates to "weekend".
Unless, of course, you're going in for a major in intoxication... then, well, I don't want to know what you do all day.
Depressing/lonely? Sometimes...

For the most part of the day my colleagues and I are either in class or working on campus. Other than that, our dorms are mainly used for studying, eating, and sleeping.
The first few weeks were pretty hard to adjust to, but if you're a full time student, it's easy to keep yourself occuppied. If you're living in a single dormitory (from what I have heard), then those people may be bit more lonely than with those with roommates.

Who sits in the dorms. There's classes, homework, part time jobs, having fun with your friends, working out at the gym etc. The only thing the dorm room is good for is sleeping and changing clothes.

most college kids I know AREN'T in their dorms all day, and if they are they're doing their homework. When I wasn't I was off at classes or doing something for classes, hanging out with friends, shopping, going to the movies etc. Others usually go out and party

Haha, most kids don't spend time in their dorms! I rarely saw any of my 3 room mates, and I was always in my dorm room!
They are out hanging with their friends and partying. Some don't even sleep in their dorms.
