The preservation of books, by each dissident person each learning all the words of one, while books at being burned (at F 451) keeps the ideas of individual love and freedom alive, despite the cruel government they all lived under.

Pretty much everyone above me has explained it. However, I'd like add how eerie the book is because it has happened throughout history. The taliban had burned all the books in afghanistan and Iran banned peopel from reading books. It really sucks.

Well basically it's about books being banned sometime in the future - but there isn't a clear reason in the book that explains why.

Take a look at http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/451/

That has lots of information about the book and characters.

If you need any other help - just write me a message through here.

Good luck!

This movie gets children to think about society from a different vantage point. By showing a sterile civilization in which freedom of thought is taboo and reading books a crime, the film helps children understand the value of books and the benefits of liberty. The role of television and drugs as a means of keeping people focused on thoughtless entertainment is also explored by this movie.
