How much infrared radiation reaches the earth within 1 hour

The first answer (1000 W/m^2 times the earth's cross-section area) gives the total solar radiation reaching earth. Only part of that is infrared (about half).

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but since infrared is heat, the number I usually hear is 1000Watts per meter sq

So, in one hour, you could estimate

1000 J/ s x 3600s/hr x (half surface area of earth)

1/2 x 4 x PI x (6370 000 m)^2
