I'm going to switch off of ortho evra (the patch) and onto pills. I loved the patch, but i'm afraid that in the summer its going to fall off a lot (i'm a lifeguard so I'm in the water a lot) since sometimes after a few showers the corners start coming off. Anyways, I was just curious about some pill options and wondered what has worked best for other women. I think my biggest concerns are weight gain (in the chest area, i'm a small girl and I already have a large C/small D) and shortening period length.

I use Nuva Ring. I love it. Since I started it in January, I haven't had one problem with it. I always had problems remembering to take my pill everyday at the same time, and it was always really hard to skip my period if I wanted to, now if I want to skip it (which I have for the last 10 Mos.) I just leave the ring in for 4 weeks instead of 3. I didn't gain any weight with it, I don't have any odd mood swings or side effects. personally I will never go back to anything else.

I was on something called the nuva ring (I'm not sure if that's how you spell it) - you insert a small plastic ring vaginally for 3 weeks and then take it out for 1 week and then start with a new one the next month- it works like the pill but much lower hormone concentration. I become moody with most pills and didn't see any of this or other side effects with this birth control.

I'm on Femcon Fe and I really like it. Yes it is pretty common for women to have some weight gain being on the pill but that is mostly water which is because of the hormones in the medication. As for the enlarged breasts I found that wearing a bigger sized bra helped ease some of that.

It is also normal for some women to have their periods get shorter which some have found to help ease menstrual cramps that may be very intense (found this out from friends who have tried the pill for this).

I use the Nuva Ring, and I think it's fantastic! You don't have to worry about remembering a pill every day, no shots, no patches, just a ring. You insert it for 21 days and take it out for 7. Just that simple. I have so many less side affects then I did on the pill. Less mood swings, less cramps, less bleeding. I would recommend it to everyone!

hi, im on yasmin and have been on it for about a year and a half now. id really recommend it for you because like you, i was concerened about gaining weight. when i started on the pill i made it a point to keep an eye on my weight and i didnt seem to get any bigger or any smaller. this pill never caused a change in my weight throughout all the time i was on it. the average period length is about 4-5 days, but after there is light spotting for about 2 days. its not too bad but you just have to be sure to wear a pantiliner about 2-3 days after you start the new pack. its helped me with cramps too. i used to get them all the time, really bad ones too, but now i never get cramps or bloating. in fact, when im on my period i feel exactly the same as when im not except for the fact that i just have it. this birth control method is excellent and you should try it.

I was on the patch. I switched over to ortho tri cyclen. i loved it. It worked well considering my fiance and I never used anything else and I didn't get pregnant and my period was always at the same time and was always the same in length. I never got any cramps with my period and I never bloated either.

My friend is on Yasmin. she only gets 3 periods a year and she loves it.

I've been on Orthro Tri Cyclen for about 12 years. I have had no problems with it. The only reason why I gained weight over the years is from a lack of exercising. Talk to your doctor and the both of you can come up with somethig that will work for you.

I'm on Alese. I'm pretty happy with it. I used to be on the patch, but my doctor told me not to use it anymore (this was after I switched anyway). He said that with the patch, the chances of heart failure/stroke and all the other side effects are increased. He said he wont prescribe it, unless the woman is very demanding for it.

But anyway, I wanted to try the new one (or I just heard of it), Yaz, but I dont think its available in canada yet.
