Barry is definately best of all time . Also the smartest for quitting while he could still walk.

Although I liked the Detroit Lions, I truly believe that Barry Sanders would hold a vast majority of NFL running back records if he had played for some other team. He was a dedicated player for his Lions. I admire him greatly for that. Sanders was not all about fame and glory for himself. His ability to plant flat footed and cut in either direction truly defied the laws of physics of the ankles. I say he COULD have been the greatest ever. He is and always will be one of my top running backs of the Game.

He's the best I've ever seen. No one in his era came close, not even Emmitt. Emmitt was blessed with a QB, WRs, a coach,a defense, and an O Line. What did Barry have? Great moves and speed, and that's all he had. Walter Payton would probably be the best............. for now.

In my opinion, most definitely. Almost all of his runs were without any blocking at all; sometimes he got one. The Lions front office never made any attempt to put a team around him., so he had to do everything on his own. He only retired early because they wouldn't get him any help and wouldn't trade him. Look what happened to Edgerrin James and Emmitt Smith when they went to the Cardinals. Imagine Sanders in a system like the Steelers, Chargers, or Colts today.

Emmitt Smith, who didn't quit like Sanders and is the all time rushing leader along with his 3 Super Bowl rings is the best running back in the NFL

Sanders was the most electrifying player to ever play football, but if I was building a team to win championships, I would pick Jim Brown.

I rate Sanders right behind Walter Payton.

Walter Payton. Did it all. Could run, great blocker and could tackle. His stiff arm was vicious. Barry was a great runner but he never blocked anybody in his life. He was nowhere near Sweetness when it came to toughness.

Jim Brown is still the best. There have been a lot of great backs since, but no one was better in their prime than he was.

He's definitely one of them. Can't say the best. You still have Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith. But, I definitely think he was the most exciting to watch!
