Or do you think it will be made exclusively for government use one day; or, on the other hand, do you belive this won't happen because it is a way of keeping track on people?

Are you kidding? Once a technological cat is out of the bag, especially with regards to a ubiquitous technology like the internet where hundreds of thousands of commercial businesses are solely dependent upon it for income as a facilitator of commerce and trade, there is no going back. Do you realize how quickly such a draconian measure would instantly crush the US economy, not to mention the world economy? What you're proposing, that the government would rescind internet use for government purposes only, is not feasible nor realistic in any sense period.

There is talk of the internet splitting into different regions.... as more Governments want control of stuff that goes on.

Alot of Govs don't like fact USA is like main "owner" of net.

Quote: "The continued control of the internet's organisational structure by the US government - in particular the Bush administration - could result in the splitting of the Net, one of the leading Arab internet voices has warned.

CEO of the Multi-lingual Internet Names Consortium (MINC) and member of the recently created international advisory committee for internationalised domain names, Khaled Fattal, made the warning in a letter [pdf] to the heads of internet overseeing organisation ICANN.

The US government's "de facto monopolistic control" over the internet combined with the "serious and growing unpopularity of the Bush administration internationally" could "lead to serious forms of balkanisation", Fattal warned."

If they did take it off us, imagine the uproar and the normal people like us who use the internet everyday.
Banks would loose out because most of us use internet banking.
Governments would loose out because thats how most people find out information.
I think it will always be avalible in some form or another for everyone.
Plus teachers would be lost, where would they find all the questions and answers they teach our kids.

I do think the internet, is a wonder thing if used correctly. That is if the preverts, who seem to be able to get into just about everything stay off of it.

good Q, and would there be less crime if guns were not so easily available?
as you show,how easy.
but also I think if people get their 'kicks' on here they might leave other people in the real world alone.
the statistics would be interesting.
