Here's my shot.
Abortion:
Liberals. They call themselves pro-choice meaning they value the womans right to wether or not to carry a baby to term over the value of that life.
Conservatives: some are pro-choice others are pro-life. Pro-life meaning they value the life of the baby over a womans right to determine wether or not to carry that baby to term. Believe it or not, all conservative are NOT pro-life
Illegal Immigrants:
Liberals - Liberal groups apparently do not want to control the border or take action to deport illegal aliens. Their reasons for this ae varied.
Conservatives - Want strong enforcement of the borders wnat all illegals to leave. Do not really care how many LEGAL immigrants the naiton lets in. It is a matter of law, sovereignty, and national security
Middle - Control the border, deport illegals. Reaosn jobs, economy and protecting the middle class in the USA.
Education -
Liberal - Strong support of public education and desire absolutely no way for religeous or private education to have access to public education money.
Conservative - More focussed on results. Would prefer that education money go the the education of the children regardless of which school they go to. Public, private, or (gasp) religeous.
Gay/Lesbian -
Liberal - seek protected status similar to anti racial discrimination. Age biased discrimination etc. Push for gay/lesbian marriage.
Conservative - Want no one person or group to have "special" status. All should be regarded equal under the law with severe punishment for those who discriminate. Do NOT want gay/lesbian marriage, but this is more religeous than life style. conservative generally could care less if gay/lesbian partners want to call themselves life partners with similar if not identical legal benefits of mariage.
Taxes -
Liberal - Tax more, especially for the wealthy. Who is wealthy is an interesting question in this debate and has NEVER been defined. Most politicians site salery levels that include middle and upper middle class families. (that is where the biggest tax revenue comes from...) More tax revenue will support more government programs.
Conservative - Simply stated, the government that governs least governs best. Thus the lower the taxes the better the taxes are.
Military
Liberal - A necessary evil that they would like to abolish altogether. I am not sure that the political left in this nation has EVER believed our military was too small. Liberal are more likely to protest military installations and target individual soldiers for ridicule to drive thier political points home.
Conservative - The sword of peace must be stronger than the sword of war. Basic belief that a strong military is the absolute best way to guarantee peace. In general conservative are more likely to send care packages to our soldiers and support military issues. Likely to give individual soldiers the benefit of the doubt but not defend the individual once the evidence of wrongdoing is clear.
Law -
Liberal - Beleive justices should liberally apply the constitution and even integrate international law into supreme court decisions. Are vey concerned about the plight of the convicts and prisoners.
Conservative - Believe justices should read the constitution as it is written and allow th elegislature to make new laws. Noe foreign laws should have any consequence in determining the constitutionality of US laws. More emphaiss on the plight of victims of crime and emphasis on stronger and harsher punishments for criminals.
Hope this helps some.

you can look at it from a christian view point for the most part.
One group believes that our society should essentially behave in a christian way and have ideals that Christ would be proud of. Another group believes more that Chistianity is about the "showing" that you are a good Christian and forcing christianity on as many people as possible using government, but acutually fights tooth and nail against government and consequently our society essentiallly behaving in a christian way with christian ideals....you know ..like the things Christ spoke of ..love your neighbor, get along, treat other fairly, have pity on those in need, don't be greedy, don't judge others, don't be a greedy money changer, its hard for a rich man to get to heaven....etc....
its a battle between those who prefer to walk the walk of being christian against those who think its more important to talk the talk of being chritian while all the while actually behaving mostly anti christian.

Liberals care about the truth. You could say liberals let the truth be the authority, while Conservatives let the authority be the truth. Therefore, to a Conservative, the truth is irrelevant.
The differences are Cons oppose abortion, education, gays, taxes, science, personal freedoms and non-Christians. Both libs and cons oppose illegal immigration. Cons are mainly in favor of war and their religion. Besides that, their platform rests on what they oppose.
Liberals are more of progressive thinkers. They embrace change and diversity. They demand explanations and facts to back up their beliefs. Liberals favor personal freedoms. Cons oppose personal freedoms. Cons prefer to have everyone conform to their way of living without exceptions. Guess which side is winning? I'll give you a hint: It rhymes with LIBERALS!

Being a liberal is being a Constitutionalist. It is that simple.
We believe in freedom of speech, separation of church and state, a person's right to bear arms, etc...
We believe in the Bill of Rights making all ppl equal and we believe that minorities should not be discriminated against.
We do NOT believe in majority rule or changing the constitution just because the majority says so.
We believe this country CORE value is the right of the ONE!
In more detail, here is why I am a 'liberal' democrat:
- I believe in war as a last resort or unless we or an ally have been attacked. IEs, Gulf War and Pearl Harbor
- I believe in UN support and if the UN is corrupt, instead of bailing on them, fix it.
- I believe we have a duty to pay our elderly social security because they paid those funds when they were working. That is like robbing them if we do not pay it back.
- I do not believe trickle down economics of Reagan, Bush Sr, and Bush Jr works. It never works. I believe in Clinton's economic system that is commonly referred to as Pay-As-You-Go.
- I believe in FDR's New Deal that the republican party has been trying to destroy piece by piece.
- I believe our social programs that keep families from living under bridges prevent us from becoming a 3rd world country.
- I believe in welfare but I also believe in Clinton's welfare reform where it is limited to 2 to 3 years in a lifetime. This prevents ppl from living on it their entire life; thereby, prevents welfare abuse.
- I believe in universal healthcare because a healthy nation is a powerful nation and also the pharmacy/insurance companies are corrupt.
- I believe in government regulation of monopolies such as power/energy, cable and telephone companies. Everytime the government deregulates these industries, they promise the price will go down but it never does... it always increases thereby increases the cost of living.
- I do not believe in making laws that violate constitutional rights... such as the Patriot Act or even seatbelt laws.
- I do not believe in making new laws everytime a problem arises; but rather, to fix the problem.
- I believe in gay marriage because gay ppl pay taxes too and heteorsexual couples should not be given special rights by the states just because they are straight. Otherwise take away those special rights and don't allow the state to recognize anyone's marriage.
- I believe in a woman's right to choose because just as the Supreme Court has ruled, a woman has a constitutional right to privacy over what happens to her body.
- I believe in the right to own a gun because it is a constitutional right.
- I believe in the constitution 110% and the liberties it allows each citizen.
- I am anti-illegal immigration because simply, they break the law by entering illegally.
- I believe in complete separation of church and state per the constitution and as interpreted by Thomas Jefferson who stated, "thus building a wall of separation between Church and State"
- I believe in SMALL GOVERNMENT in terms of big brother staying the hell out of my business. I've never participated in a census and refuse to. I am a LIBERAL and believe government has NO RIGHT to stick its nose in my business.

Democrats want abortion legal, and they want it to be a favorite form of birth control. Ideally, they'd love the government to pay for the service.
Republicans think the individual states should decide if abortion should be legal or illegal.
The democrats are constantly trying to come up with a way to allow the illegal aliens who are here already...to stay legally.
President Bush and a handful of other Republicans also want amnesty for illegal aliens. Most Republicans want a fence built between Mexico and the US, and to start deporting illegal aliens.
Democrats like the public education system. It's a place where they can do social engineering, such as busing, indoctrination on homosexuality issues, and providing sex education/birth control to children.
Republicans wish the schools could focus on the basics: Reading, writing, arithmetic. Many Republicans like the school voucher system, so parents who dislike the above scenario can protect their kids and send them to a less-expensive but more effective private school.
Democrats want the gays to be able to marry, adopt, and want employers to be sued if they discrimminate against gays in any way at all.
Republicans oppose homosexual marriage, and think that one's sexual activity is a private matter, not a workplace issue.
Democrats love taxation. The more money they get, the more they pour into their constituents with services that are expensive and ineffective. The more ineffective the service, the harder they fight to fund it.
Republicans oppose unnecessary taxation. They support taxes for necessary services to protect the borders, and to provide protection for citizens (police, jails), as well as infrastructure.

Abortion... Liberals favor/ Conservatives don't.
Illegal Immigrations Liberals favor/ Conservatives don't
Education, both equally feel it's important
Gay/Lesbian, Liberals favor / Conservatives don't
Taxes, Liberals love high taxes / Conservatives understand the need for lower taxes to increase our economic fortitude.
Now there are some conservatives, like myself, who don't really care about abortion or gay lesbian relationships... That's way to personal for me, I want you to have your freedom to do as you choose... However, abortion shouldn't be used as a form of birth control.
Conservatives on a whole, want America to be strong, where as the Liberal party, would rather take the basic freedoms we enjoy in this nation and take them away.
