Please can someone clarify - what exactly is the law regarding leaving babies and children alone, whether at home or on holiday in a foreign country? I cannot believe that it is within the boundaries of the law to leave 2 and 3 year old children alone unless you are in the next room.

This information is on the internet all you need to do is search for it.

Like the article in another post says, they have done what other parents do on holiday and I bet still do even now despite the high profile of the case, so who is prosecuting those parents?

I have no idea what Portuguese law is on the subject.

However, Portugal is the only country in Europe that has NO minimum age for buying booze, so what the minimum age is to be left alone by your parents I can't even guess.

I always believed it to be the age of 14 that they can be left and the minimum age of a babysitter was 16

Maybe I was wrong - My daughter is 16 and she would babysit for me if I had to go out - the youngest is almost 4 and my 16 yr old is very mature for her age. I would never leave the younger ones without an adult! They should be done for neglect, selfish people.
