I have to go with Smokey Robinson (altho I really like Prince) I think Smokey is just the "coolest!" What a smooth voice & what a talented songwriter! Think of all the songs he wrote that the Temptations made famous! Smokey is the Man!!!

I grew up in the 80's,so I have to go with
Prince.
Prince not only wrote some great songs for himself,but for other artists as well.
He wrote hits for Madonna,and Sinead O'Conner,just to name a few.
