Unless he is not fit enough, there can be no merit in dropping him as he has been the frontline bowler for Sri Lanka for a long time..

Vaas is a good allrounder for the Lankan team,
Fernando is also good, not bad.... But if Vaas is there it would help the Lankan team a bit, he is an experienced technique bowler, who have studied most of the Australian batsmans. Anyways if Vaas thinks that he is a bit out of form then there is no problem in being out for the second test.

Excellent decision.
He has an shoulder injury.
Chaminda Vaas dose not need to waste his talent for a losing batting team anyway.
&
This gives Dilhara Fernando a shot VS Aussie batsman.
Edit: Worse player for Indian batsman maybe.
Farveez Marhoof, Lasith Malinga, shall play.

Wasn't Pollock too left out of the SA side?
It happens to the best of them, but it is in no way the end of the road for either of them. Both have quite a bit of cricket left in them.
