#1 Bill Russell and #2 Larry Bird are automatic top 2 choices.

The other 3 are iffy, but I will choose players who have won regular season and/or NBA Final MVP's for the Celtics:

3. Bob Cousy: the first great point guard of the NBA, numerous assist titles, retired as number 1 all-time in assists before being surpassed by Oscar Robertson (then passed by Magic then Stockton)

4. John Havlicek: as good as Bird, say some old-timers, one of the all-time great all-around players ever, the first great 6th man, and when he retired in 1978, he was the 3rd or 4th all-time leading NBA scorer in history; still is the all-time top in Celtics history; Bill Russell thinks he was the greatest Celtic he ever played with

5. Dave Cowens : super center from the 70's, also small at 6'9" and left-handed like Russell but such a competitor, was not afraid to face guys like Kareem Abdul Jabbar or Bill Walton; won two titles for Celtics (74 and 76) with Havlicek as his teammate

You can't go wrong either with putting guys like Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Dennis Johnson, Bill Sharmon, Sam Jones or Jojo White on that list.

Guys who are putting in Kevin Garnett may wish to remember he hasn't even played 10 games yet for the Celtics.

1. Bird
2. Russell
3. Cousy
4. Garnett
5. McHale

I love Bill Russell, but Larry Bird was awesome. The best part of Bird was the way he would talk sh*t and then deliver. Those who remember the 80's can recall a time when everyone (except Celtics fans) HATED Bird. In retrospect, it's easy to love such an amazing player. The best clutch player of all time.
