The springs unstreched lenth is 52.3 cm, its k= 125 N/m and the mass = 612 g. You hold the mass on top of the spring until its at equilibrium.
A) Find the length the spring is compressed.
B) If you let the mass go and let it fall on its own whats the length of the spring then at the bottom.

Thanks in advance

For part B we just let go of the mass and let it go up and down on its own. So what I am trying to find is how far does the spring compress when it goes down.

mg = kx
x = mg/k, that's the amount of compression. Subtract that from the full length of spring and you will get an answer for (A)
(B) - I don't quite get what they're asking. Are they now suspending the mass? Then you add the quantity x you found in A to the length of the spring to find the length of the stretched spring.
