I turned it down the last 5 times. I felt that if my baby had it, that it would not matter to me, as I would love it the same and it would not have changed my mind about the pregnancy anyway!
Good Luck!

yes i had the test with all my kids so far and will when i am far enough along this time. i did not however do the Amniocentesis (where they insert a needle into the uterus and take out some of the waters)which is what alot of pple are confusinf this with
everyone seems so confused as to what it is, hopefully all those that answered without knowledge on the topik will come back and look.
"The triple test is a maternal blood screening test that looks for three specific substances: AFP, hCG, and Estriol.
AFP: alpha-fetoprotein is a protein that is normally produced by the fetus.
hCG: human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone produced within the placenta
Estriol: estriol is an estrogen produced by both the fetus and the placenta
It is a non-invasive procedure done through a blood test with little to no risk to the mother or developing baby.
How is the triple test performed?
The triple test involves drawing blood from the mother which takes about 5 to 10 minutes. The blood sample is then sent to the laboratory for testing. The results usually take a few days to receive.
What are the risks and side effects to the mother or baby?
Except for the discomfort of drawing blood, there are no risks or side effects associated with the triple test.
When is the triple test performed?
The triple test is performed between the 15th and 17th week of pregnancy. Accurate results can still be obtained through 20 weeks gestation; in rare cases it may be performed up to 22 weeks."

The AFP test has no risk of miscarriage. What are these people talking about? It's a blood test. It's the follow up testing that is dangerous. (amniocentesis) And no, I didn't turn it down.
EDIT: Also, the test DID come back positive. And I DIDN'T abort my child. The thought never once crossed my mind. Saying that this test is only for people who wish to abort their children is a bit of a generalization. I took the test because I was a scared, first time mommy who didn't know what to expect. Would I take it with my next? No way!!

I did the AFP, but turned down the amniocentisis. I turned some of the tests down b/c I told them I wasn't going to abort even if there were problems. I just felt fortunate to be pregnant in the first place.

I turned it down twice because I knew the odds were very low, but when I get pregnant again I will be asking for it. Its not a definitive test, only an indicative test that leads to more specific and definitive tests if its positive (like measuring the nuchal folds with an ultrasound or having an amniocentesis). What is nice is that if its negative you really don't have a kid with either of the three birth defects.

I am not really informed on the matter, BUT. I know that I would get i for 2 main reasons. 1.) If the baby were going to be unhealthy to the point where it had no quality of life I would save them the pain. and 2.) Lets say they had down syndrome and still would be able to lead a healthy life I would want my doctor to know that so we could treat the baby the best way we could!

If this is the test where they draw amniotic fluid and test it, yes I turned it down. It does not matter what my baby is I am keeping it so knowing that my baby has something wrong with him in the middle of my pregnancy will do me no good. Espically since this test has a %25 false positive rate...why put yourself through that?

Turn it down? They shouldn't ask you for it, you should be the one bringing it up. You must be going to a hospital. Anyways, I would never ask for it, if you are going to get pregnant then you should be prepared for anything. I mean really what good would it do you to know that your baby has Downs? There ain't nothing you can do about it, unless you believe in abortion. So no I would never have that test done. Waste of time, money, and not to mention harm to your baby.

I know it's really not that accurate and as long as you wouldn't want to abort the pregnancy if anything were thought to be wrong, DON'T DO IT!! If your going to keep the child anyways it's a pointless test that may cause a miscarriage!!
BEST OF LUCK!!

I let them do it, but it didn't matter what the resluts were to me, I wasn't getting an abortion. But I think it let the doctor better know what she was dealig with, if indeed it did happen to show a problem.
