The thing you saw was an infomercial. It is a program where yo buy a method, in the form of books and tapes. It is not really a scam, per see, but they use extreme examples to gain your interest. The program involves purchasing homes that have been seized by the government for tax liens. The legal process of purchasing them is considerably more complicated than the commercials let on. Plus, the properties are auctioned-any house worth having will sell for considerably more than the minimum tax owed. I guarantee you that you would not want a house that you are able to buy for $600, as this would mean that the professional investors in your area have deemed the property not worth of bidding on.

You can get good deals at tax sales, but count on paying at least 70% of the real value of the house.

you most likely heard of tax sales. If someone does not pay taxes on their property, the government will sell it at a tax sale.

You pay what the owner owes as taxes on the house. You are not guaranteed to own the house if you buy it at a tax sale. The owner has a certain time period to pay back the taxes to you plus interest. if the owner does not pay you back in time, the house becomes your property.

check your local newspaper to find a tax sale near you. it is done once a year. Mine is done on our courthouse steps.

There are no government programs which will provide a house for you to own for $600, or anywhere near that price.
