in order to allow Bonds to break the home run record? After all, this is three year old information. If so should Bud Selig and baseball be put on trial for deceiving the fans knowing what they knew and yet allowing this charade to continue?

To answer a couple of questions: Why the home run record if Selig knew Bonds was cheating? Revenue! If the Grand Jury had taken Bonds away sooner think of the money baseball would not have made from the home run race.

Humorless G-men! I don't trust the government! Although it would have been a thing of beauty to see Bonds walked off the field by Federal Agents!

That is an interesting thought about this whole thing. And now that you mention it, I wouldn't doubt it. Selig probably wanted some attention for the MLB and wanted an "event" that many fans and non-fans can root for and support. As a result, advertising around MLB goes up and everybody is making some money. Money is one thing most people would do anything for -- killing, lying, robbing, etc... I would love to see Selig get slammed with a lawsuit and put on trial!

If you knew anything about the humorless uptight people who become assistant United States Attorneys in the criminal division, you would know that it is highly unlikely. They are used to bringing down the high and mighty and really would rather do it when it will have the greatest deterrent effect. I am more surprised that a pair of FBI Agents in green windbreakers did not go out to left field one day last summer and walk him out in cuffs in front of 30,000 stunned fans. Hell, they could have done it in Dodger Stadium or Petco Park to the wild cheers of the crowd.

good point! you know that makes perfect sense, can't believe i never thought of that. it's definitely very probable. But my question is is why would MLB and Bud want a record so important to the history of baseball to be broken if he knew it was tainted?

absolutely but the deal was probably for the end of the season as MLB wouldnt want this going on during the WS or something like that. i think the giants knew this was coming as well. all of a sudden they are willing to let him go to free agency? strange.

Yes. I also think that there have been many stars test positive in the past only to be given a closed door warning by MLB. They run a business and are trying to protect their investment, even though it's wrong.

Probably Mick but what can you do. Our President said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq when in fact they lived on rocks and were goat herders. We still invaded although we had to know different. He's still our President, right?
