I bought a money order, filled it out with the name of the business it was intended for, and wrote my name and address on it . I made a photocopy, and I left the money order in the copy machine . That was the last time I saw it . In order for somebody to cash it, he'd have to cross out the name of the business it was intended for, and wrote his own name on it . That would look mighty fishy, and I'd expect cashing it to be next to impossible at that point . Is it possible to cash a stolen money order ?

Depending on where they take it probably not. Either way, the money is gone out of your hands, even if they never cash it. . Talk to the place you got it to see if you can put a stop on it. This way they can put the money in your account.
It is not likely that they can do this though. Good luck.

It has been done. Also, he would not have to cross out the name of the business; he would merely have to pretend that he worked for the business or get a fake ID indicating that his name was the name on the money order. There was a case several years ago of a corrupt government (IRS or post office) employee with the initials JRS cashing checks made out to IRS by changing the I's to J's and pretending that they were to a person, not an agency. To prevent this from happening again, the government decided that future checks to the IRS should be made payable to the Treasury Department, instead of the IRS.

the person MIGHT be able to cash it... but you should know that you can place a stop hold on a money order... just call the place you bought it from, and they can help you with the process... after a certain amount of time, you can get a refund... good luck... =)

Hi there. It turns out that you CAN get a refund from Money Gram. I sent them a copy of the police report, and they contacted the bank that it was turned into for payment and requested that the funds be debited. They then cut me a check and mailed it to me. The whole process was a pain and took about 3 months, but it can be done.

I would not really think so. They would have to find a crooked place to cash it ! You can just report that you lost it and they will cancel that one and issue you another. Pretty sure.
