Eh???

We call them Cars or Motors

I always say Car but some people I know say Motor

It is you that has a funny name like Automobile

Just easier to say Car or Motor than "Automobile"

And I'm actually quite amazed at how I read your question in the first place

English English or American English that makes no sense

What is an Engline??

I suspect the root of automobile is German whereas Motor car is English. Even the modern German has been shortened from automobile to auto.

Incidentally Petroleum is petrol as Gasoline is gas, Parafin is kerosene. I have no idea why they language is different other than it our language and your fellow countrymen are too lazy to maintain the language properly. You didn't invent the TAP but you call it a fawcett, you can't pronounce aluminium so instead of speaking correctly you cahnge the word - how ignorant is that?

Because it has always been called a "Motor" car.

Not a thing that moves on its own = auto mobile - that is what automobile means. AUTO = on its own

And we put PETROL or diesel in them to power them and we COOK with gas

And it is not only English - Welsh, Scottish, Irish, English.

Auto + mobile is French!
Ours started off as Motor - carriage shortened to motor -car then to either 'Motor' or 'Car'.

its short for Motor Carriage.
shortened to motor car
and finally to Car.or motor...

Perfectly logical

btw Petrol is a shortened form of Petroleum
Gas is what we use to cook with

where does Automobile come from??
