Yep. The trick is to get the plunger well seated in the bottom of the bowl, then to push. Pushing before that may equal the dreaded splashback.

You can push repeatedly if needed.

Plunging a toilet is rather easy and mess free. Just place the plunger over the hole in the toilet, press down hard and pull slowly. The suction should be enough to loosen what is stuck. You may need to push and pull on the plunger several times. Just do it slow and strong and it shouldn't make a mess. If the toilet is too full of water, wait a little while. There may be a small hole in the item that is causing the plug, the water will slowly drain and give you more room to work.

Yes, I've used the plunger on many toilets. It's not all that messy or yucky ... I don't let my husband do it because he always thinks 'flushing more' will work, and then the toilet runs over. Hey, I have an ex-friend who claimed he was a trained plumber who did the same thing. I'm glad my grandfather taught me how to do the things 'men' do around the house, because I'm usually the ONLY one who knows how to do them. Seriously. Yes, I'm a woman ...

Yes. Got it down to a science. These low flush toilets sometimes take five flushes, using a plunger usually only takes three flushes to get the loaf ripping through the pipes.

I have, as long as the plunger is quality its not much of a problem. Just get it into position and plunge away not much to it.

Who hasn't? Sometimes it makes a mess and sometimes it doesn't. You just have to be careful and catch the clog as soon as you can.
