Was it me or did he and mclaren spend all season critising Alonso for wanting No.1 driver status saying that this cannot be because the team will only treat them as equals .. no preferential treatment, yet he's all over the press now crowing that now alonso's gone... next year he will be the mclaren No.1 driver ????....

Alonso had #1 on his car becoz he was the champ....lewis had #2 becoz Alonso was the champ and his drive partner gets to use #2.....not becoz he earned it.
Alonso earned his number 1 status, its foolhardy to believe anything else.
Thats the standing order they shoulda had at Mclaren too!
There`s no way that a double champion can expect or accept to be treated the way Alonso was....thats way crazee.
How can a rookie be put on the same level as a two time champ?......one good season does not make him Alonso`s equal.
The ridiculous have even said that he could be better than "The Greatest"......Michael Schumacher no less!! How mindboggling is that?....and these comments were being made even before the season was over!
When the going got tough....( when my beloved ferraris got their wind tunnel back on line and found more speed)...it was lewis who faltered, not Alonso.
All this hype is only becoz the British team are trying to get a pommie champ, as always.....and after nurturing him for the past 10 years, they were always gonna compromise Alonso if they felt lewis could get the championship!
And after being caught with 780 pages of ferrari technical data.....the team points were cancelled not the drivers. So, why were they calling for the drivers, and not the team, points to be cancelled in the last race?....they wanted the pom to be champ!
Alonso already has what lewis has to strive to achieve.
His formula 1 immaturity was evident when it was down to the wire....silly mistakes and decisions were made, and at the end, he was tied on points with Alonso.
At the end of it all...the ferraris had 12 fastest laps...4 second fastest....5 third fastest and 9 pole positions....and for me, they deservedly won both championships!
While lewis may be good....he is not yet great....nor is he a champion yet.

Dennis tends to have the best eye for future champions. The list of the drivers who enjoyed good treatment from McLaren includes Prost, Senna, Hakkinen and Raikonnen. The guy knows what he's doing with his team. Lewis is just the next guy picked by McLaren to become big. As for the hype, most of it was started by Alonso when he complained about the treatment. Hamilton originally made the news because he was winning and was leading the championships, not because he was treated as #1.

Dawg is correct.I don't see that Hamilton has done anything wrong. He's very young and has been a good example of a sportsman and a winner.
Alonso was not sporting and has been detrimental to his team...but Ron Dennis continued as he said he would and always has done to give both his drivers a good car and a chance to do well. That's all you can ask of him. He's been open, honest and treated his drivers well
The treatment meat-ed out by the FIA has not been consistent in admittedly complicated issues.
But it remains that Ron Dennis has been at all times honourable and open
I hope he has gotten rid of all the bad wood in his team.IE Alonso and that other test driver,De La Rosa. They really have saddened the atmosphere in the team and done damage.
Alonso may do well at Renault and good luck to him there if that's his move.I am not up to date on latest but feel as said already that Hamilton will play fair and is not crowing at all.
Hamilton didn't criticise Alonso till the end when Alonso had already set his cards clearly on the table that he would not be a team player.
Next season Mclaren will put two equel cars out on the track again and then we will see a competition like this last season which in itself will be a mini Grand Prix in itself
Great fun

The hype about Lewis is crazy. Deny it or not, McLaren definitely has been giving him special treatment over Alonso. Although Alonso is egoistic and talks too much at times, I don't think everything he said about the double standards and not getting the rightful treatment as a two-time world champion were untrue.

I'm quite sure that next year, regardless of who is his teammate, Lewis will be the no.1 driver. If I had just watched this year's races and see the way McLaren were towards Alonso and Lewis, I would think that Lewis was the two-time world champion and that Alonso was the rookie!

I'm quite fed up with Hamilton news. Anyway, it only makes sense for the team to make him No 1 driver as Alonso is leaving. A newcomer to the team would be No 2. But no matter who is what number I believe all drivers whould be treated equally. But when it comes down to certain management decisions, the more senior driver (in terms of years at the team) shouldbe given a say

Yeah,I can see what you meant.I guess I would like Lewis more if he would just drop the act.He acts like this naive driver and he loves everyone etc etc etc .why cant he be real and say hey I want no1 and i will win at any cost ..people that think Lewis is better than Alonso.think about this,Alonso and Kimi had to adjust to new Tyre's(thus a new way of driving) a new team etc, that was why Lewis got his points advantage in the first place.next year Willl be his true test.He wil be a future champion within a few years I`am sure of that, though he is not what the media and BRITISH fans(who will support anyone as long as there Brits gee) believe he is
.Hekki and Button and Kubica are all just as good, though Lewis came into f1 with the best car (at the time) Yes he has the talent to bring the best out of the car,but how good would he have done if he had to drive the Honda? or Super Aguri? think about it

I hate lewis hamilton and mclaren!
I never used to hate mclaren and never thought I would but with the way they and hamilton treated Alonso this year was ridiculous and disgusting and in my eyes if you are world champion you should be given no.1 status!
I also never thought I would have a problem with lewis hamilton until he decided he wanted no.1 status and started taking all of Alonso's advice way to far!

again Dennis and Haug are 2 of the biggest idiots in this world. who is Lewis to be given same status as Alonso at the beginning of the season? it would have been funny if Alonso did win the title this year.

Lewis is out their on his own regarding driving skills. His secret is the fluent way he drives the car and so smoothly. He can go quicker and will his talents are unlimited. With the absence of traction it will give more BHP to the cars and twitchy back ends. This will suit lews driving abilities he will smash records at most circuits. He did cost me 10K by not winning the championship a bet I placed after the first race at fantastic odds.Alonso lacks personality and beleived he was the best our lew soon put that right.Bet again that by the end of 2008 season the lads wealth will exceed 100 million £s.He is valuable merchandise good luck to him,and soon will stand alongside our other great Becks.
