I am looking to upgrade a 4 year old Dell Desktop. I have found Mercury KMV800M Motherboard (new) with a preinstalled Athlon 2700+ CPU for a reasonable price. I do not use this machine for gaming, mostly web surfing, some photo shop stuff, and limited word processing. This is a family computer, and does not need to be the fastest or most decked out machine out there.

Thanks

Nate H. What "new software" might require this. Are you talking about a new OS or other type of programs, I have Office Suite, etc. and most programs I already need. Other stuff I run on my notebook.

Karz- It retails for $78.00. I am assuming that is reasonable.

That should be fine for you needs especially if it is really cheap. Just put in 1Gb RAM.

I think that would work. However, the only problem is that the processor isn't duel core. These days, computers need to rely on the duel core capability, and if you get a single core you're running the change of having to upgrade your computer again shortly just to keep up with newer software that comes out. I would suggest at least looking for a duel core processor.
