Not for US president.

No ... the closest I can remember an African-American even coming to being a legitimate contender for a major party's nomination was Alan Keyes ... and I think he ended up with something like 12% of the Republican Party's deligates.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have tried several times to run for president, but they didn't even get anywhere close to where Alan Keyes got.

I don't think so. But then again, I don't think there's been that many African Americans who have run for the Presidency.

If you only count the two dominant parties, no. If you count the various 'third' parties, I know women have won nominations and I /think/ there may have been Arican Americans, as well. Though, third-party primaries are rarely that competative.

Not yet but the future could be bright for this to happen.
I would vote for an Alan Keyes or Walter Williams in a New York second--because they know what the constitution is----no racism here by me.

no....most americans would not vote for a black man or woman......it will happen in our days but not until all the old racisit people die
