It does have an unfortunate connotation, but technically it really is a good German name.... I don't really think anyone would make fun of him in school - do you really think a five year old knows about Adolf Hitler? It would be more of a problem with the parents and grandparents of the child. I personally wouldn't think anything of it if I heard that name... and I'm half Jewish. Yes, what he did was horrendous, despicable and evil but his name didn't make him do it.....
And to "happy!" who suggested you know it's not a good name since you posted it on here - what's the excuse for all the people that want to name their kid Emily or Jacob?

I'm pretty sure this is a joke, right?
The name Adolf has never been popular actually, it's always been an unusual name throughout history and will get noticed.
The English form of the name is Adulf; personally I prefer this spelling and pronunciation.
Seriously, I do know a German guy called Adolf, so it's possible to have this name and not get lynched for it. I mean he gets comments and teasing, but no worse than many other names.

lol. Funny story, not meant in a mean way, so don't be prude and get all offended. But I love the name Julian for a boy, my fiance doesn't. So someone on here suggested naming him Julian and nicknaming him Jude. So I wanted to have one named adolf and another named jude. If you don't get it Jude means jew. I just thought it was amusing, I wouldn't seriously do it though, although I still love the name Julian/ Jude. Good Luck

it sounds like you're trying to prove a point through your child's name.
especially since you're asking people what they think in the context you asked. (look passed your own prejudice)
if you didn't understand why the name wouldn't be okay to use, you wouldn't have asked.
Don't use your kids name as a point-prover.
give the kid a good name. He has to live with it for his entire life.

I'm not prejudice abou the name, but if you want to give your child that name make it a middle name not a first name so he won't have a hard social life growing up in school and in the work force.

It has a strong meaning, with a masculine sound, and character.
Here's the problem: people are always going to associate it with Adolf Hitler. Even if you love the name, you really shouldn't name a child the same name as the most hated man in history. That's all people are going to think of when they hear that name. If you have to use it, you better make it a middle name.
Other ideas:
Dolf
Connor
Randolph
Ulric
Zeev
Those all mean wolf.

Behind the name defines Adolf as: Modern form of the Germanic name Adalwolf, which meant "noble wolf" from the Germanic elements adal meaning "noble" and wulf.
So it has a neat meaning but it also has a stigma that it will never shake. I don't think you're serious but if you are I highly recommend NOT subjecting your child to that.

I don't like the name, but not because of prejudice. The kids at school will torment him. Don't make your kid go through that. Just the fact that ur posting this question tells me you know people won't respond so positively to the name.
