The Catholic Church is just as pro-life now as it always has been.
Catholics believe that life is a sacred gift from God and needs to be treated with all human dignity from the moment of conception to the point of natural death.
The Catholic Church is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."
This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
+ All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
+ The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in vitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
+ The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanasia
+ Prisoners in objecting to torture and the death penalty
+ The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 2270 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art5.htm#2270
With love in Christ.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but as a Catholic, I can assure you that the abortion issue and all other human rights issues are still predominant in our faith. In our diocesan newspaper, there is a column every week on pro-life issues (not limited to abortion, but also euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, artificial birth control, etc.), and invariably there is at least one parish in our diocese that is having a pro-life event. We still gather for prayer weekly at our local abortion clinic (I live in a small enough town that there is only one and abortions are only performed every-other Friday). There are pro-life clubs in our Catholic high schools and our college groups also perform pro-life activities. Plus we routinely hear our priests speak about pro-life issues during Mass.
So I have no idea what you are talking about.
QUOTE from the Pope today:
Speaking specifically about abortion, the Pope said:
This direct destruction of an innocent human life [abortion] can never be justified, however difficult the circumstances that may lead some to consider taking such a grave step. When you preach the Gospel of Life, remind your people that the right to life of every innocent human being, born or unborn, is absolute and applies equally to all people with no exception whatsoever.

The Catholic Church does not hold elections on the matter. All Church policy is decreed by the Pope and the Pope alone. There may be some Catholics with differing opinions, but that does not affect Church policy or the Churches teachings.

I no longer practice or attend church, but as far as I know, it's still the same M.O; sex is a sin, make women ashamed of their bodies, and the fetus has more right to exist than the woman.
Darth, for once you said something intelligent.
That's about 80% of the reason.

Darth, you are wrong. The number one cause of abortion is, was, and always will be irresponsible behavior.
