Lets put this in perspective. We the fans buy season packages and other sport related things. What makes a athlete think he is worth 200 - 500 million dollars adding A-Rods last contract and his new potential one. Not even talking about bonus on winning the world series and commercials. So what was it for A-Rod the gas prices went up, his mortgage went up, is he that essential for the Yankees. Are the Yankess going to suck if he is no there. Is he really going to make a team a whole lot better if the Yankees let him go. Did the Ranges go to the World Series. When is it enough money.

I do like A-Rod, the essence that I am trying to reach is. What does he think when he looks at the mirror and asks for a quarter of a Billion dollars. And then goes out and take pictures with charities and does propaganda of his sensitive side. Yes i know that the yankees can pay and the revenue is important. But in all fairness lets get real. So what if The Yankees can afford it its about principle. Its like saying hey I know the organization makes 1 billion a year let me get a big piece of it. We know that contracts are the essence of the game now ate days and not love. Think about this. Johnny Damon won the World Series for boston after the Curse. So he left because of moneyyyyyyy not love or respect. Common sense. Do you really need 27 million dollars a year.

What makes an athlete think they are worth 200-500 million dollars? The 2-5 billion dollars worth of revenue that they help generate for MLB and their respective baseball team, that's what. Would it make you happier if the players made $50,000 a year like the rest of us and Steinbrener got 99% of the billions he makes from the Yankees and the YES network?

Where is this fairy-tale world you live in? A-Rod is WORTH $200+ million dollars for all of the reasons I just stated. He makes MLB and the NY Yankees BILLIONS of dollars. What do you expect him to do, just say, "Eh, screw it, just give me $100,000 grand a year and we'll call it even"? Welcome to American capitalism my friend. If A-Rod wasn't worth $25-30 million a year, no one would pay it to him. He is simply negotiating a contract that compensates him fairly for the services he provides. Do you get just as upset at A-list Hollywood actors getting $20 million a picture? Or how about a CEO making $50 million a year? It is all about the revenue they generate for their employers, be it a Fortune 500 company, Universal Studios, or the NY Yankees. You can live in never-never land where teaching is the highest paid profession but I live in the real world where people pay $200 a ticket for baseball games, not 3rd grade spelling bees.

Hey!! If owners are crazy enough to pay these prices to athletes, why not ask for the salary. The Yankees could care less. Their Yes Network brings in untold millions for within the states and Japan . They share revenue with the poorer teams but always manage to have the largest payroll in the league. Steinbrenner can't seem to buy a world championship anymore.Maybe those ditsy sons of his will !!

Its never enough for the ego maniac A-Rod, he always wants more. Didnt he and all the rest of the MLB rosters grow up wanting to play baseball and now that you are you want to be a greedy little prick (A-Rod). Most are already rich, so why not take less money to play for a good team and win a World Series.

it really is no longer a question of "why", that's a question of "because". like the chicken and the egg, one motives the different. at the same time as extra human beings watch activities, it is going to develop into economically life like for businessmen to pay athletes extra money. In different words, the individuals watch first, THEN the athletes receives a fee money.

I actually just got done posting a question about money. I think if a player truly loves the game of baseball, they won't be worried about how much they make.

Dude, if you had A-Rods talent and you had $200,000,000 - 500,000,000 you would try and take it too, would you not?
