Just read that the number 17 is considered unlucky in Italy. Italian airlines have no Row 17, many hotels in the country have no Room # 17....also something to do with Roman numerals for the number have a bad meaning.
On top of that, Italy has only won 4 of 11 games played on the 17th of any month in the past 30 ytears......
Italy take on Scotland this Saturday...the 17th...kick-off 1700 hrs.....freaky or what? But then again are Italians really that superstitious?......or just your footballers?

I understand it was a BBC news item (it's English, so it must be true....they rarely do Scotland any favours!).

That's... spooky beyond belief! 17! Huh! Maybe this is a sign that Scotland could thrash them 4-0. (I'm not going for 17-0. That would be impossible!)

Italy is very beautiful. And there are many reasons. In no other country you can go for a hike in the Apennini mountains in the morning, and take a dip in the mediterranian in the evening. You can go skiing in the Alps or hiking in the beautiful forests. Nature has given much to that country. It also has a culture to be envied. Almost every city has something beautiful to see, from churches to mosaics to fountains and statues. Rome is one big museum, you can't walk down the street without seeing roman fountains, gorgeous statues or a beautiful church. And the same goes for many, many cities. On top of that the people are very warm and friendly. It varies from south to north, of course, but most everyone you find will be welcoming. And the cuisine! In the south you'll find the most seafood you've probably ever eaten. Ever had spaghetti and octopus? In the north there will be lots of meat, mushrooms, and more different types of pasta you ever imagined existed. And anywhere you go, the best pizza and ice cream in the world! I absolutely love Italy, and if possible, anyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

This 17 has been lucky for Italy.
You should update yr stats. After today Italy has won 5 of the 12 games played on the 17th.
And by the way at the kick-off in Italy it was 1800 hrs...!!

I agree with Juventina, I think its media hype. Haha. its so wierd though, I mean even kick off at 17:00?? I really don't think that those circumstances are going to affect the match though, Italy will qualify :] Although I must admit it is a very freaky coincidence!! The footballers must have noticed these unusual circumstances as well, but they definitely won't let something like that ruin their game.

i guess this will be the fifth win. as you say, they have won before, so historically we can win on an unlucky number.
this is a very very good italian team. other teams that did not win were probably not as good. and if we won 4/11, then we probably were unbeaten in 8, and 8/11 is actually a good omen.
so we just need a draw and the scots need to beat the world champions. dont make it seem that the world champions will come to concede goals in front of some massive english speaking crowd making some chants. if there is anyone that knows about pressure and getting results under pressure, it is us italians.

They were discussing exactly what you said on the commentating for ESPN. But Italy have won now anyway, I'm sure they weren't too worried about the superstition.

I'm a little suspicious of UEFA. Think they planned that out? I'm told 13 is lucky in Italy too. I don't believe in that. You make your own luck for the most part.

Superstion, plain and simple. can anyone prove that if you walk under a ladder or crack a mirror you will have bad luck?
