There were basically three acquisitions during this time. If you look up "Mexican American War" you will learn about how the west was acquired from Mexico. Under "Spanish American War" you will learn about the acquisition of Puerto Rico, the Mariana Islands and temporary possessions such as the Phillippines. Lastly under "History of Hawaii" you can find out about the US takeover of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
