I think it had to do with the quality of competiton he performed against...Eastern Illinois is not an NFL player factory and few teams were willing to gamble on an unknown , relatively obsure QB...

Actually Tony Romo wasn't drafted at all. The Cowboys signed him as a Rookie Free Agent. Playing at a small Division 1-AA school (Eastern Illinois University) isn't always the path to a high draft pick. He was a winner of the Walter Payton Award given to the best player in Division 1-AA. Others who won this award include Brian Westbrook (at Villanova) and Steve McNair (at Alcorn State).

Being a good college QB and a good pro aren't the same things. Not that he wasn't good in college, but he did go to a Div 1AA school. Drafting isn't an exact science, especially at the QB posistion. Alex Smith, Ryan Leaf, David Carr, Akli Smith ...etc. where all drafted top 5 and were or have been in the case of Smith and Carr, bad pro QBs.

he was a nobody from nowhere - not everyone gets noticed; he wouldn't have been at Eastern Illinois if he had all the necessary tools; Brady went to Michigan and was still a 6th round pick.

There have been Heisman QB's that didn't get drafted at all - that's how it goes.

Romo came out of Eastern Illinois and went undrafted. Say he had started for the Cowboys as soon as they signed him. He wouldn't be doing what he's doing now. He waited his turn on the bench, and learned the system. He grew as a QB from sitting on the sideline and practicing and getting better. Since he waited a while, he isn't being thrown in as a 1st year NFL QB and isn't being told to save the franchise. The Cowboys were smart with Romo and it is paying off. Or maybe I am wrong and Drew Bledsoe is just that good of a teacher. (Romo and Brady)

I would keep Romo with T.O. and Jessica Simpson gone he is drama free and can focus back on what he needs to. He should have a good year. Mcnabb has alot going on with Vick and the possible wildcat offense

He wasn't drafted at all. Brady was a 6th rounder. Sometimes good players go unnoticed.

He was never drafted in the first place. There are some players whose ability you just can't see until they actually get on the field. Doesn't happen too often, but it does happen.
